The Slash is a 1/10th scale replica of CORR's (Championship Off Road Racing) 2WD Pro Race Truck.
If nothing else the Slash is a cool looking rc truck, but it is a lot more than that. Leave it to Traxxas™ to go out on a limb and try some thing different.
When Traxxas™ started to sponsor a Pro 2WD and a Pro 4WD in the CORR series and now Traxxas™ is the series sponsor for TORC.
Many knew that something new was about to appear in the Rc World. When this rc short course race truck hit the market it seemed like everyone wanted to get there hands on one.
At first glance the most obvious thing that stands out about the Slash is that it has a full fendered body and skinny tires. But, there are many other features that makes this rc short course race truck fun and exciting to drive.
Combining the fact that the Slash is a 2WD truck and it's long travel soft suspension results in a very loose handling truck that is going to challenge your driving skills.
Now let us take a closer look at many of the features on the Slash.
The most noticeable is the body. With the body having massive flared fenders that cover the tires, is something new in rc off-road trucks.
Traxxas™ has redesigned the body mounts in the body. They incorporated reinforcement washers into the body mounts. Plus, they have added Velcro strips to the nerf bars and sides of the body. This will insure that the body stays in place when you are rubbing other trucks and after landing those big jumps.
In designing the chassis for the Slash Traxxas™ used a high impact gray and black fiber nylon composite material. This material makes the chassis extremely durable to with stand almost all crashes and crashes are going to happen.
Traxxas™ added scale front and rear bumpers to the chassis for added protection. The front bumper has a plastic shock absorber between it and the body to help absorb those impacts. While the rear bumper does not have the shock absorber, but it will flex enough to absorb the same impact as the front. To help protect the body and chassis during crashes Traxxas™ has added nerf bars to the sides of the chassis.
To keep the chassis lay-out clean and neat there is a servo wire routing channel under the battery tray. Plus, to protect and support the steering components and differential front and rear skip plates have been added to the chassis.
Also, for those of you that want to race the Slash, a transponder mount has been incorporated under the front shock tower.
With all the different types and sizes of battery packs available today, Traxxas™ has equipped the Slash with a battery tray and adjustable battery hold down system. This will allow you to use 6-cell stick or side-by-side packs or 7-cell side-by-side or hump packs.
Also, if you want to run over-sized battery packs there is an optional over-sized hold down system available.
To power the Slash Traxxas™ has installed there Titan 12-turn 550 modified motor.
The Titan 550 is close to a maintenance free motor for long lasting performance. To help to extend motor life, run times and to obtain more speed an integrated cooling fan pulls cool air through the motor.
To control speed Traxxas™ has installed a waterproof XL-5 ESC (electronic speed controller). Besides being completely waterproof the XL-5 ESC features Thermal Shutdown Protection, 4-8 cell compatibility, three driver profiles and built-in BEC (battery elimination circuit).
To keep all the electronics running at full capacity and cool Traxxas™ has used there new High-Current-Connectors.
To make it possible for you to use this rc short course race truck in any types of conditions Traxxas™ installed a digital high-torque waterproof steering servo and sealed watertight receiver box.
So, go run the Slash trough the mud and water and not worry about damaging or destroying any of your electronics.
To get the torque and power of the Titan 550 motor transferred to the ground the Magnum 727 transmission, a planetary gear differential and Revo-spec slipper clutch have been installed.
The Magnum 727 transmission is steel geared and ride on ultra-smooth sealed ball bearings.
The planetary gear differential runs a steel ring gear with a nylon ring gear housing. With the use of hardened steel internal gears makes this differential almost maintenance free and efficiently transfers the torque to the wheels.
To manage the power produced by the Titan 550 a Rev-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch has been installed. To dissipate heat and provide for consistent traction control this clutch uses semi-metallic friction material and finned aluminum ally pressure plates.
An added feature of this slipper clutch is the ability to remove and replace spur gears without altering the slipper.
This combination of transmission, differential and slipper clutch is close to bulletproof. They all require very little maintenance to keep operating correctly and can withstand just about everything you can throw at it.
To insure that all the power gets to the tires, telescopic driveshafts with heavy-duty yokes have been used on the Slash.
The telescopic driveshafts allow the suspension greater articulation for the maximum about of suspension travel.
Suspension travel is controlled with the use of coil-over oil-filled Ultra Shocks with progressive rate springs. The Ultra Shocks besides delivering smooth performance, they are fully tunable and rebuildable. By changing springs or oil weight or pistons can have a significant influence on handling and performance.
For improved durability and performance Traxxas™ designed heavy-duty front steering blocks and rear hub carriers that utilize rubber sealed 5x11mm ball bearings.
For maximum protection from dust and dirt rubber sealed ball bearings have been installed in all exposed locations on the Slash.
Besides just looking cool this truck adds up to a very exciting and fun short course race truck for many different environments and conditions.
Yes, the suspension is setup to be very loose and soft, but all this is going to lead to huge power slides in the corners and the ability to clear the biggest jumps.
Yes, you will need to alter you driving style for the Slash, but that is what a short course race truck IS.
