Good ideas on the proper ways to store and handle your rc car nitro fuel.
What causes your rc car nitro fuel to go bad? These questions and a few more are going to be answered, along with some myths about rc car nitro fuel. Rc car nitro fuel manufacturers include many additives in their fuels to solve many of the common problems with your rc car nitro fuel. But there are some precautionary steps you do need to take. 
First off why would you rc car nitro fuel go bad. One component of your nitro fuel is methanol and it is hygroscopic. The definition of hygroscopic is that it attracts water. So, any time that your rc car nitro fuel is exposed to the air it could absorb water. Water will contaminate your rc car nitro fuel. You will be able to see this moisture as water droplets on the inside of your nitro fuel bottles. 1. Never leave your fuel bottle uncovered. Always secure the cap back on the fuel bottle. 2. As the level of fuel in your nitro fuel storage bottle lowers, squeeze all the excess air out of the fuel bottle till there is no air space left in the fuel bottle and replace the cap. 3. When you are outside with your nitro fuel storage bottle keep it out of the direct sun, to lessen the greenhouse effect. One way to overcome the greenhouse effect is to store your rc car nitro fuel in a metal can. 4. Leave your main supply of rc car nitro fuel at home. Only take with you the amount of fuel you think you are going to use. Invest in either some quart or half gallon containers. You could purchase some nitro fuel in quart containers and keep reusing them. Refilling them out of your main fuel supply. 5. Store your main nitro fuel supply somewhere that has a constant temperature, no extreme temperature changes, out of direct sun light. With taking a few precautionary steps you can store your rc car nitro fuel indefinitely. Keep the cap on your fuel bottles allowing no moisture to enter. You will be able to store your rc car nitro fuel supply for long periods of time and it will stay fresh. 
A few things to stay away from doing, if at all possible. 1. Once fuel leaves your nitro fuel supply bottle it should never go back. With your refueling bottle or gun being exposed to many different kinds of contaminates, keep them separate. 2. Try to stay with the same nitro percentage fuel. If you do decide to change percentages you will need to take some time and have some patience. You will have to go through your breakin procedure all over again. 3. Do not let fuel stand in your rc vehicle's fuel tank over long periods of time. When you are done running for the day either run your rc truck or car out of fuel or remove and empty the fuel tank. Then properly dispose of the unused fuel. Do not try and reuse it. I use an old nitro fuel jug to keep my "junk" fuel in. When junk fuel bottle starts to fill up I take it to a hazardous waste disposal site so I can dispose of it properly. It may cost a few dollars, but do your part to help keep the environment clean. =============================================================== 4. Rc car nitro fuel is highly flammable. Methanol evaporates rapidly and the vapors are very dangerous. Methanol burns with a flame that is faintly visible. The flash point of the vapors is far below that of an open flame.
