You would like to have a Rc Truck, but do not know which one to get or how to make any sense of all your options.

It seems like almost daily some company is coming out with a new scale or a new and improved rc truck.

Let us take a look at many of the different options you have when it comes to choosing your truck.

One of the first things you need to consider is where are you going to be running your truck.

Do you want to run indoors, outdoors, the empty lot down the street or your local race track. Or, chase the cat or dog around the house.

Rc Truck picture To get started let us look at the different sizes of rc trucks. Let us start off small and work our up from there.

The 1/36th scale is the smallest rc truck. Team Losi's new Micro-T Stadium Truck is one of the smallest I have seen.

It is a 2wd electric powered truck. This thing is small with an overall of 4.5 inches (114mm), a width of 3.5 inches (89mm) and a wheelbase of 3 inches (76mm). It features a fully independent suspension, 3 speed transmission with gear differential and slipper clutch.

The Micro-T can fulfill your need for speed just about anywhere. On the tabletop, around the house, or just about any where you would like to take it.

The 1/18th scale rc truck is the next size on our list. These minis are becoming very popular, being 4wd electric powered they can go any where that your imagination takes you.

The 1/18th scale monster trucks measure in at a length of 10.25 inches (260.4mm) to 10.75inches (273mm), a width of 8 inches (203.2mm) to 8.5 inches (215.9mm) and a wheelbase of 7 inches (117.8mm) to 7.5 inches (196.85).

Many of these Mini monster trucks run oil filled coil over shocks, extra long suspension arms, slipper clutch and three differentials. Do not let their small size fool you, these mini monster rc trucks have the ability to go any where.

They do love playing in the dirt!!

Rc Truck picture The next rc truck we need to take a look at is the 1/10th scale stadium truck. The stadium rc truck is 2wd and can be either electric or nitro powered.

They are both great trucks for on and off road fun. The 1/10th scale stadium truck is capability of some amazing speeds, some are advertised as having a top speed of 65mph. It does not matter which power source you use both the electric and nitro powered stadium trucks are very fast.

With all that speed they can be a hand full to keep control of.

They will measure in with a overall length of 16 inches (406.4mm) to 17 inches (431.8mm), a width of 12.25 inches (311.15mm) to 13.25 (336.55mm) and a wheelbase of 11 inches (279.4mm) to 12.25 inches (311.15mm). Rc Truck picture
One of the ways the 1/10th stadium truck gets its speed is from running a transmission and slipper clutch. The transmissions will either a 2 or 3 speed shift on the fly transmission.

A 1/10th scale rc truck has a fully independent suspension, with coil over oil filled shocks. Making the suspension very adjustable for different conditions.

With their ability for high speeds comes with what some would call a downfall and that is there desire to do wheelies. Some rc stadium trucks are even known to do wheelies at each shift point.

So, they can be fun and exciting once you get used to and learn how to control the wheelies. Till then get used to your stadium truck flipping over on its lid and having to go and put it back on its wheels.

Rc Truck picture Now let us take a look at the ever popular 1/8th scale rc trucks. These include the class called Truggy (combination of a TRuck and bUUGY) and the Monster truck and both being 4wd.

First we will look at the truggy. You can trace the history of the truggy back to the rc nitro buggy. This class got its start from combining Monster truck parts on their buggy's.

Bigger tires, longer suspension arms just to name a few. To start off manufacturers just modified their existing chassis and suspensions on a their buggy's to turn them into the truggy.

But, today almost all manufacturers build a chassis and the entire suspension for especially for the truggy.

Rc Truck picture Truggys are going to measure in at around 20 inches (508mm) to 22 inches(588.8mm) overall length, with a width of 16 inches (406.4mm) to 17.25 (444.5mm) and a wheelbase of 13.5 inches (342.9mm) to 14.5 inches(368.30mm).

The truggy is dominantly a nitro powered class, with a few electrics being played with. With the new brushless electric motors and battery technology changing rapidly this could change and there could be some electric powered truggy's on the market.

Rc Truck picture Now for the one of the most popular of all the rc trucks the Monster Truck. The monster truck is the one class of rc trucks that is wide out with many different types of chassis's and suspension's.

Also there is many options when it comes to power plants. For years all monster trucks were nitro powered, but today many are changing their monster truck's over to electric power.

I do not see one or the other type of power plant dominating this class. I for one am glad to see that there is now the option of having either a nitro powered or electric powered monster truck.

From, all that I have heard and read there is almost no difference is the overall speed from one to the other. I feel that both have their advantages and disadvantages, so it leaves it up to you the monster truck enthusiast to which power plant you want to run.

Rc Truck picture The monster truck is going to measure in with a huge variance in overall length, width and wheelbase. The rc monster truck has an overall length around 21.5 inches (546.1mm) to 24 inches (609.6mm), a width of 18 inches (457.2mm) to 21.5 inches (546.1mm) and a wheelbase of 14 inches (355.6mm) to 15.5 inches (393.7mm).

With all the hop-ups and options that are available for your rc monster truck, these rc trucks can be great fun. You have the ability to customize your monster truck into something that is unique just to you.

In the near future we will be taking a closer look at each of the different rc trucks. Each different rc truck will have at least one page dedicated to it, additional pages may be needed to explain the different aspects of each rc truck. So check back soon to see when those pages are added.
