Wanting an affordable RC Rock Crawler? If so, Axial Racing's™ AX-10 Scorpion RTR is the rock crawler for you!!
All you need to add is batteries and rocks.
One of the most affordable 1/10th scale rock crawlers on the market today is the AX-10 Scorpion RTR. Right out of the box the AX-10 is one tough and durable truck, that is capable of being a good rock crawler.
Plus, if are you are wanting a very competitive rock crawler Axial Racing™ and many other companies offer many upgrades that will make the Ax-10 RTR extremely competitive.
A couple of things you are going to want to do after getting your Ax-10 RTR is to install the 14 tooth pinion for added crawling torque.
Also, you are going to want to lock the front differential, so the front differential will not unload on the tough obstacles.
Both the 14 tooth pinion and front locker are included and Axial Racing's™ manual does a good job of explaining and showing you how to make these changes.
Do keep in mind that the Ax-10 Scorpion RTR is not competition winner out of the box, is was never meant to be.

What Axial Racing™ wanted to do is market a 1/10th scale electric truck that could places that most other 1/10th scale electric trucks could not go. Being that they lacked the ground clearance or 4WD or the torque or all three to get the job done.
While the AX-10 Scorpion RTR will get the job done not matter what you put in front of it, but not quickly with only a top speed of 7mph. Anyway rock crawling is not about speed, but the ability to climb and deliver torque when needed.
Easy climbs for the AX-10 Scorpion RTR are no problem, but as the climbs get closer to vertical or the truck gets leaned over to the side too far it is going to topple over.
This is caused by the AX-10 Scorpion RTR top mounted battery that translates to a very high center of gravity. You can lower the center of gravity by installing Axial Racing's™ optional axle-mounted battery/servo tray.
Also, many aftermarket companies have the axle-mounted battery/servo tray available. The battery/servo tray is designed for the small 7.4 volt LiPo battery packs.
The other problem with the top mounted battery pack, is that it has a tendency to slip out.
There are a some easy fixes for this problem, you can add a Velcro strip to the tray and your battery pack/s or glue a small strip of rubber or foam rubber to the battery tray. Just to see how they worked I have tried all three, in my opinion all three were very effective.
The Ax-10 Scorpion RTR is my first attempt at doing any rock crawling. The only modifications I did right out of the box was to install the 14 tooth pinion and locked the front axle.
Just with those mods I have had many great hours of bashing this truck around the rock pile. Since then I have replaced the stock steering servo with a stronger faster digital servo, added anodized aluminum steering linkage and softer springs.
In the future I do plan on adding anodized aluminum suspension links and 30 degree bent links, axle-mounted battery/servo tray and aluminum shock bodies.
One of the things I enjoy most about this truck is just how tough it is. I can not remember just how many times it has tumbled off rocks and nothing has ever broke, the only wear and tear it shows is the body is getting very beat up. I expect that with all the abuse I have shown this truck.
The one detail I like the most about this truck, is its ability to grow with my rock crawling ability. With all the upgrades available from Axial Racing™ and aftermarket companies the AX-10 Scorpion RTR has the ability to turn into a very serious and competitive rock crawler.
Depending on the type of rc rock crawler you are looking for Axial Racing's™ Ax-10 Scorpion can meet your needs. If you want to build it yourself and add your electronics and motor the kit is what you need or if are wanting a rolling chassis and add your electronics and motor the ARTR is the truck for you.
