Then the engineers went to work and improved the areas that needed it, while keeping the rugged image of the Savage.
The Savage-X still utilizes a Twin Vertical Plate chassis, but the all new "X" chassis has a lower center of gravity than any other Savage chassis. HPI Racing™ has lowered the engine, center gearbox and radio/battery box by 5mm.
This results in the Savage X handling better and the ability to lay down better lap times. The new laser etched "X" chassis is not only good looking it improves the overall performance of the Savage X.
The one thing that all owners of monster trucks want is more power and HPI Racing™ listened. The Savage X is still powered by a 0.25ci big block nitro engine, but the Nitro Star® F4.1 is an all new engine.
The F4.1 features revised porting, a new crankshaft for improved horsepower and torque. Too also add more power and torque internal airflow has been optimized. To keep the F4.1 running at peak performance it has an all new crankcase that is finned for extra cooling. More horsepower and torque is always better.
One of the things that almost all Savage owners complained about was access to the radio box. The radio box on the Savage X has been redesigned.
This new radio box eliminates the use of body clips in securing the lid. Besides allowing more room for all your electronics the new radio box has an optional battery level indicator and external charging jack included.
The new "easy-to-use" radio box is a much needed new feature.
Another area that HPI Racing™ looked at to improve performance on the Savage X were its suspension arms.
Gone are the big bulky arms and in there place all new light weight suspension arms. All excess material has been removed from the suspension arms to reduce overall weight and minimize both sprung and unsprung weight. These new lightweight suspension arms are going to result in a huge improvement in overall handling, plus they are going to make bumps, ruts or any other obstacle almost unnoticeable.
To add even more strength to the suspension the Savage X now comes equipped with 17mm wheel hexes. These larger wheel hexes help to secure the tires more securely and helps to prevent wheels from stripping under heavy loads.
HPI Racing™ also includes in the box 14mm wheel hexes, so you have the option of using either the 17mm or 14mm wheel hexes depending on your choice of wheel.
To add suspension tuning options to the Savage X HPI Racing™ has redesigned the shock towers. The new shock towers now have three different mounting positions to help you get the maximum handling performance out of your new Savage X.
HPI Racing™ has equipped the Savage X with an all new tire. The GT-2 tire is lighter to help with overall weight, plus it has an aggressive tread design for better all-terrain traction and to improve tread life.
HPI Racing™ has mounted and pre-glued the new GT-2 tires on "Chrome Warlock" wheels.
As far as wrenching on a Savage X it has gotten much easier. One thing that a majority of Savage owners complained about was accessing the center gearbox and differentials.
Will this is one area that HPI Racing™ has listened to Savage owners.
The center gearbox can be accessed by removing six screws, not having to remove one side plate entirely to gain access to the center gearbox. By removing the six screws the center gearbox splits in half, the top half is removable exposing all the internal gears of the gearbox. Now repairing, rebuilding or re-gearing the center gearbox is a snap.
HPI Racing™ gave the same six screw technology to the differentials. All you need to do to service the front or rear differential is remove six screws. Now changing oil in the differentials to match track conditions or driving style is quick and easy.
To help to protect the drive line HPI Racing™ has developed a new heavy duty slipper clutch for the Savage-X. This new slipper clutch features dual slipper plates and a shock absorbing rubber pad. This new slipper clutch is going to add much more durability to Savage-X's drive line.
Another area that HPI Racing™ listened to Savage owners is the Roto Start®.
The new Roto Start 2® addresses many of the problems that were found on the first Roto Start®. The Roto Start 2® now features hidden battery wires, built in circuit breaker, starter shaft holder that is the correct size and the shaft fits, and a safety cover over the red "on" button, probably the most important upgrade.
With HPI Racing™ addressing many of the problem areas of previous Savage versions. The all new Savage-X could be the best Savage ever.
The Savage-X is going to make many existing Savage owners wish for the X model, while at the same time it is going to turn many rc monster truck enthusiasts into Savage X fans.
