Starting in mid 2006 we heard that Team Magic™ was developing the M1B an all new 1/8th scale nitro buggy.

Engineers at Team Magic™ took on the task of designing and developing a nitro buggy like no other on the market.

They wanted a buggy that has many new and exciting features, using high tech materials and utilizing many new concepts to revolutionize the way we think about 1/8th scale nitro racing.

So, what makes the M1B so much different than any other 1/8th scale buggy on the market?

The Chassis: Team Magic™ used 7075 high-grade aluminum to build its chassis, making it one of the stiffest on the market. To reduce flex the M1B features two nylon chassis stiffeners mounted on the center line of the chassis. One other thing that has been done to improve rigidity are two nylon braces connect the rear differential to the chassis.

Plus, all mounting points on the chassis are deeply countersunk to guarantee screws do not make contact with the ground. Keeping overall weight in mind Team Magic™ has relieved the chassis in all the low stress areas.

Engine Mount: The M1B features a one piece engine mount that is machined out of high grade aluminum. This ensures that both sides of the engine mount are parallel and will help to eliminate vibration, heat and crankcase pressure.

In the machining process Team Magic™ has removed all sharp areas and edges to protect its users. Team Magic™ has also polished the engine mount to a high gloss finish.

Too aid with engine cooling the front and rear stiffeners of the engine mount are designed for increased air flow through the engine mount.

Plus, the chassis has been relieved below the engine to allow more air movement under the engine, also this area of the chassis has been "ribbed" to increase rigidity.

The M1B's Radio Plate or Tray: Too lower the center of gravity on the M1B Team Magic™ uses their revolutionary dual lay-down servo design. Since this design has worked so well on the G4 it had to be applied to the M1B.

The carbon fiber radio plate is easily removed for maintenance and cleaning by removing three "R" clips.

The receiver/battery box also features this "R" clip quick release design. Remove one "R" clip and you have access to the receiver and battery pack. This makes all maintenance and cleaning a snap.

Adjustable Differentials: The M1B is like most other 4wd buggies on the market today features a three differential shaft drive driveline, mounted on the center line of the chassis.

But, the M1B differentials are adjustable by tightening or loosening set screws. The workings of these differentials is the must used four beveled gear with an added twist.

There is an alloy end cover on one end of the differential where a nylon two piece clutch is located. This clutch clamps on to the "sun" gear. When you tighten the set screws on the clutch you make the differential harder or stiffer and vice verse.

What an easy way to tweak your handling performance. This will give you more time to concentrate on the overall handling performance.

Let say you do not want to mess with the adjusters, just remove them and the differentials will perform like a normal four gear differential.

Center Differential Mount: Many 1/8th scale buggies on the market today use a two piece center differential mount or bulkheads. Not the M1B it features a one piece center differential mount.

The one piece mount accomplishes many different things. It reduces the problem of aligning the differential correctly. It adds more overall chassis rigidity and reduces differential flex.

For easy of maintenance just remove four screws and the center differential can easily be removed.

The other neat feature of this mount is the brake system. While most other buggies have their brakes mounted to the top half of the mount, the brakes on the M1B are mounted on the bottom half of the center differential mount.

This lowers the center of gravity even farther, plus eliminates the need to remove throttle and brake linkages when servicing the center differential.

Team Magic™ has again kept its fans in mind while designing this buggy, making it easy to work on.

Suspension Arms: The lower suspension arms are designed after the wings of a jet fighter, Team Magic has named them the "Flying Wing". These arms are designed to improve aerodynamics and bump clearance, plus reduce the amount of dust, dirt and mud buildup on the top of the suspension arm.

The upper suspension arms also feature this "Flying Wing" design. These upper arms are designed to with stand the heaviest crashes and feature a high grade steel 5mm turnbuckle.

The rear upper suspension arm have a very unique feature, a pivot ball. The pivot ball cup is on the rear bulk head. With this design the M1B's performance is greatly improved. It improves weight distribution, helps to prevent drastic center of gravity changes, better turning ability and this system will never bind.

Too also improve handling performance the suspension arms on the M1B are the longest on the market today. These long arms give the M1B exceptional suspension travel for improved jump ability, off road potential and stability.

Captured Hinge Pins: The M1B uses no E-clips to secure the hinge pins. Team Magic&trade used T7075 aluminum to design its hinge pin holders for the M1B.

On the front they use 4mm thick plates and on the rear 5mm. In the low stress areas all excess material has been removed to reduce overall weight.

To capture the pins and position the hinge pins nylon cups have been used.

On the rear the cups can be rotated to adjust both anti-squat and toe angle to suit your driving style.

The Steering System: Again the engineers at Team Magic™ went to work and designed a completely new steering system to both improve handling and performance.

With the M1B having such long suspension arms the inner ball caps are mounted horizontally instead of the typical vertical. With mounting the ball caps in this way eliminates any binding or restriction on the steering linkage.

To quicken and smooth out the steering action eight sealed ball bearings are utilized in the steering system for the best performance possible.

Low Profile Shock Towers: Staying with the concept of producing a 1/8th scale buggy with a very low center of gravity, Team Magic™ designed low profile shock towers for the M1B.

The front shock towers are 20mm shorter than any competitors buggy and the rear are 25mm shorter.

These low profile shock towers are manufactured from aluminum and nylon composite that provide maximum strength while adding style.

The Shock Absorber System: The shocks on the M1B are both low profile and high volume. The shocks feature a 16mm shock body, the largest on any buggy on the market.

Using this large shock body takes away the affect of dampering changes due to heat buildup. Smaller bodied shocks will experience heat buildup from friction thus changing the dampering of the shock.

With the M1B having low profile shock towers, the shocks also need to be low profile, 10mm shorter than almost all others. Again Team Magic™ engineers throw out the standard shock cap and ball end design.

They have placed them in a new position, reducing the overall length of the shock. These shocks are build of very strong and durable aluminum and nylon, so they will with stand hard driving, huge jumps and massive crashes.

This combination of low profile shock towers and shocks will allow you to drive the M1B harder and deeper into even the trickiest corner.

The Steering Blocks: The engineers at Team Magic™ felt that the pivot ball steering block was too heavy, with poor control and less on power steering, they decided to design a light weight C-hub for the M1B.

These C-hubs are machined out of 7075 aluminum with percisely machined bearing journals for zero bearing slap.

The C-hubs are held in place by king pin screws on both the top and bottom, plus there is no need to worry about these screws falling out. The king pin screws are secured by set screws and a small nylon post.

The Anti-dust Refueling System: Tired of having to cut a special hole in your body to access your fuel tank or having to add zip ties to the fuel tank cap? Team Magic™ has designed an all new dust and dirt free refueling system that is easy to access. M1B's body features a cover over the the fuel tank. All you need to do is pull the fuel tank lever and the cover and tank cap open at the same time. Keep dust and dirt out of your fuel tank, while at the same time making refueling much easier and faster.

This has been a look at many, but not all, of the new design features of Team Magic's™ M1B 1/8th scale nitro buggy.

This buggy comes in kit form only and you will need to supply your own electronics and engine.

This buggy was developed with the serious RC Racer in mind.
